Assignment 2 – Synopsis

 Idea 1 – Kid Magician

The main concept of this idea is about a young boy performing magic tricks for a small audience. The boy would announce his final trick would be to make himself disappear. He takes his top hat off and steps into the hat managing to squeeze himself inside. The audience looking stunned, picks the hat up and turns it upside down which causes the young boy to fall out of the small hat and hit the ground. He then stands up looking disgruntled and tells the audience they are terrible and walks away. I imagine I will need to setup a green screen to shoot the boy so I could then mask him out onto an individual layer which could be scaled accordingly to make it look as if he is fitting inside the hat and vice versa for coming out of the hat. I would use some lighting and particle effects for the entry and exit of the hat to give the impression of a kind of “magic dust”. This would be aimed at people of all ages to have a laugh by incorporating humor with some VFX.

Idea 2 – Barbeque Man

For this idea the main concept is of a man who is apparently not very good at using the Barbeque and ends up setting himself and his surroundings on fire but is seemingly happy with the result of the cooked sausage. This would include smoke/particle effects as well as flames. Using sound to create an atmosphere of emergency with fire alarms and fire crackling while having the characters remain unusually calm in order to make a humorous juxtaposition of elements. The main effects would be to develop some nice looking smoke and fire effects which I would probably do through Blender to create the 3D assets then import them into After Effects using layers.

Idea 3 – Magic Beans

My third idea is of two children bickering over some “magic beans”. They plant the beans and then the first child says “See! There is no such thing as magic beans” and walks away. The second child looks down with a sad look on their face when they notice a small sprout starting to emerge from the ground. The plant begins to grow exponentially as it grows upwards into the clouds. I would need to develop a 3D asset for the growing plant and animate the growth which could be a little time consuming. The beans would be made to glow which would not be too difficult and I would most likely use some bounce lighting to help time them fit into the scene. The background would be made up of a few layers to give an impression of a spacious garden. This would be aimed more at younger people but hopefully would have enough humor to make an adult smile. A clever punchline could be added at the end to cater for the more mature audience.
